Silencers .223, AR-15, HK-93
Introduction
The purpose of this manual is to present the information and machinist drawings necessary for the construction of sound suppressors for weapons of 5.56 mm caliber (.223 REM.). The sound suppressors, or "moderators " as sometimes referred to, will henceforth in this manual be referred to as "silencers ", although true silent operation with high velocity projectiles such as the .223 is not feasible as will be discussed later.
The silencer design presented in this manual is a close variation of the famous "SIONICS SUPPRESSOR ", and this text will deal with the adaptation of this design to such popular weapons as the COLT AR-15 & M-16, HECKLER & KOCH 93, and finally the group of commercially produced sporting rifles including the REMINGTON 700, RUGER 77, RUGER MINI-14, etc..
Of the above mentioned group of weapons, the HK 93 and AR-15/M-16 feature threaded barrels and the addition of a flash suppressor as standard issue. By having a factory threaded barrel, a good deal of the work in adding a silencer is eliminated. Although the title of this manual is SILENCERS .223, this design can also be used with other high velocity .22 caliber cartridges
