In the last few years, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of survival blogs. They cover food for survival, survival schools, emergency preparedness, and any number of related topics. Desert Publications (http://www.desertpublications.net) has done the leg work separating the wheat from the chaff.
In no particular order, here are the top ten survival blogs.
1) SurvivalBlog (http://survivalblog.com) - Created and maintained by James Wesley Rawles. This is undoubtedly the largest survival-related blog, at least based on traffic. Rawles is a noted author in the survival community. Most of this content posted here though is sent to him by readers. He regularly runs writing contests, with the prizes ranging from food for survival to admission to survival schools.
2) SurvivalWeekly (http://www.survivalweekly.com) - This site contains a blog called The Self-Reliant Woman. The author is a woman who has "been there, done that" in terms of living off the grid. Another blog on the site is The Library at the End of the World, which reviews fiction and non-fiction of interest to survivalists. They also have a feature where they profile US-based companies selling food for survival and other preparedness supplies.
3) Bug Out Survival (http://bugoutsurvival.com) - This site is written by survival expert Scott Williams. The focus of this blog is mainly wilderness survival. Williams is an expert in all manner of outdoor survival techniques and has experience surviving in every climate on the planet.
4) Survival-Gear (http://www.survival-gear.com/blog) - This blog is updated every day, Monday through Friday. While relatively new compared to the others on this list, there already exists a large number of posts. The author, Jim Cobb, has studied and lived emergency preparedness for over twenty years. The topics covered run the gamut from stockpiling food to the preparedness mindset.
5) The Survivalist Blog (http://www.thesurvivalistblog.net/) - M.D. Creekmore is another noted survival expert. This blog is packed with great content for both the novice and the experienced survivalist. Recent topics include using coupons to extend your buying power for storing food and discussion of current news stories.
6) Survival Common Sense (http://survivalcommonsense.com/) - An excellent survival blog in that it eschews conspiracy theories and politics, concentrating on the nuts and bolts of disaster readiness. There are several blog posts detailing various DIY survival kits as well as skills of interest to the urban survivalist.
7) Modern Survival Blog (http://modernsurvivalblog.com/) - Updated frequently, this blog covers a wide range of topics. Much of the recent content has centered on natural disaster threats such as volcanoes and blizzards. There are also several posts in this blog regarding retreat living, economic threats, and emergency preps.
8) The Survival Mom (http://thesurvivalmom.com/) - This is a unique blog in that it is written largely for women. Lisa, The Survival Mom, has worked hard to make the topic of disaster readiness accessible to people who might think of survivalists as nothing more than gun nuts. Food storage and preparation are covered well, as are a litany of other topics of interest to those new to survival planning.
9) Off Grid Survival (http://offgridsurvival.com/) - This blog is a survival school in and of itself. Updated frequently, there is quite a bit of quality information. Topics range from bug out bags to alternative energy.
10) Suburban Survival Blog (http://suburbansurvivalblog.com/) - Jack, the author of this blog, will readily admit he is not any kind of expert in the field of survival. This blog details his DIY approach to disaster readiness. He shares with his readers what has worked, what hasn't, and what he's been learning along the way. The writing is very down to earth and enjoyable.
