Survival Shooting for Women
Attitude & Mental Conditioning
In recent years in America, violence against women has become an epidemic, sweeping across all age, economic, and geographic lines. In my own city last year, with a population of 775,000, there were over 750 reported rapes, and so many brutal assaults, beatings, muggings, etc. that many women are genuinely afraid to be alone in their own homes, not to mention being terrified of the city's streets! This simply should not be.
Realistically, though, we cannot expect any overnight changes in our criminal justice system, which leaves the law-abiding citizen a prisoner in her own home while the real criminals prowl the streets. This means that women must be able to protect themselves against the ever growing likelihood of assault. Before we examine the actual use of firearms for defense, a few words about mental and emotional preparation are in order.
In our culture, many women are taught from early life that self-reliance, confidence, and resistance are somehow not feminine. Guns are held in something akin to horrified revulsion by many women, and even those who are not particularly afraid of guns are often completely ignorant of their operation. Such long-standing attitudes are difficult to overcome, but they are more easily overcome than your rape or murder!
